"Quit Lit," short for "quit literature," refers to a growing genre of books that explore the decision to stop drinking alcohol or significantly reduce alcohol consumption. This literature serves various purposes, ranging from personal memoirs that detail the author's journey to sobriety to practical guides offering tips, resources, and insights on living alcohol-free. For "sober curious" individuals—those who are exploring their relationship with alcohol but may not be ready to commit to total abstinence—Quit Lit can provide valuable perspectives and encouragement. These books often reflect on the societal norms surrounding drinking, the benefits of sobriety, and how to navigate social situations without alcohol. They aim to inspire readers to reconsider their drinking habits and embrace a more mindful approach to enjoyment and socialising.
This was my starting point. This book goes into detail about the effects of alcohol on the body and mind, helping readers understand their feelings about drinking more clearly.
A great stepping stone for the sober curious. This book takes comprehensive look at the psychological and societal aspects of alcohol consumption, offering strategies to change one’s relationship with drinking.
A personal game changer! Who knew not everyone blacked out?! Not me! It’s all I knew from the age of about 14… This memoir details Sarah’s struggles with binge drinking and the moments that led her to ultimately seek sobriety.
A powerful female narrative that discusses the societal implications of drinking and offers a fresh perspective on sobriety, particularly for women.

More so related to drug addiction than alcohol, although included, this one is a real tear jerker so be prepared. It is a heartbreaking true story of a Father supporting his Son and the battles of relatives and care givers when their loved ones are in active addiction. A wonderfully well written insightful account.
The first of a now series, this book is hugely relatable if you’re a grey area drinker plodding functioning well in the eyes of others but actually starting to realise that perhaps we’re all just plodding along and compliant with the social norms of alcohol abuse.
The is also now a (fantastic) movie. A book of hope for those getting sober. At the age of thirty, Amy Liptrot finds herself washed up back home on Orkney. Standing unstable on the island, she tries to come to terms with the addiction that has swallowed the last decade of her life. As she spends her mornings swimming in the bracingly cold sea, her days tracking Orkney's wildlife, and her nights searching the sky for the Merry Dancers, Amy discovers how the wild can restore life and renew hope.
Part Memoir, part self help, this brave and open account tells the story of coming back from addiction and homelessness, a humbling harrowing read.
I’m a book lover and an avid reader.. I may or may not have transferred my addiction 🥹 if you'd like your book added to the site feel free to reach out.
